Project Status:  Completed 2016

Location:  Nelson, BC

From its humble beginnings as a tiny, volunteer run community store in the Slocan Valley, Kootenay Co-op has grown into one of North America’s most successful and entrepreneurial co-ops.  The new Kootenay Co-op Store is part of a larger mixed-use development, Nelson Commons, spearheaded by the management and development team at Kootenay Co-op.  Studio 9 Architecture + Planning worked closely with key members of the Co-op to design a store with more space, better flow, and improved amenities than their previous store location was able to offer.  Construction of the store involved intense, on the ground coordination between several service consultants and specialized furnishings suppliers.  The store was able to meet their target opening date of December 20, 2016 and provides its customers with amenities such as a specialty cheese, fresh meat and seafood, bulk foods, wellness department, cafe, restaurant, and a full service deli.
